Introduction:ELTROMDX (Eltrombopag) 50mg 28 Film-Coated Tablets.Thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA) (oral, small molecule).
Indication:
Treatment of thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts) in:
● Chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) (adults & children ≥1 year).
● Chronic hepatitis C-associated thrombocytopenia (with antiviral therapy).
● Severe aplastic anemia (in combination with immunosuppressants).
Dosage & Administration:
● Standard dose: 50mg once daily (dose may vary; follow doctor’s instructions).
● Take on an empty stomach: At least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
● Avoid calcium-rich foods/dairy, antacids, or supplements within 4 hours of dosing (they reduce absorption).
● Swallow whole—do not crush, split, or chew the film-coated tablet.
● Missed dose: Skip if forgotten; do not double the next dose.
Important Precautions:
1. Liver Monitoring:
● Requires regular liver function tests (LFTs) (risk of hepatotoxicity).
● Dose adjustments needed for hepatic impairment.
2. Bone Marrow Fibrosis:
● May increase risk with long-term use; monitor blood counts.
3. Thrombosis Risk:
● High platelet counts can raise clotting risk; report unusual swelling/pain.
4. Drug Interactions:
● Avoid with antacids, iron/zinc supplements, or CYP3A4 inducers/inhibitors (e.g., rifampin, ketoconazole).
Common Side Effects:
● Headache, nausea, diarrhea
● Fatigue, abnormal liver tests
● Rash, increased risk of infections
Storage:
Keep at room temperature (15–30°C), in original packaging to protect from moisture.
